Art is like a ritual for me.
Painter and sculptor, Onkar Kshirsagar, writes about drawing inspiration from nature and creating art that is a reflection of society, as his solo exhibition opens today on the 19th of November.
My affair with art began from my childhood. I grew up watching my father, who is an artist. Over the years, my practice has evolved because art teaches you how to be spontaneous in different conditions. That has been my biggest learning.
When I am making (art), every moment is memorable to me. I always follow the prose of nature. Its my biggest inspiration, but humans are interrupting nature and that is a concern to me. I think the primary role of an artist is to hold a mirror to society. It is difficult to challenge people’s perspectives, but art can be insightful.
Art is like a ritual for me. I do it everyday. You have to be passionate about art. That’s it. Any conceptual difficulty and uncertainty of creating will vanish when you are passionate. My audience feel connected to my work. They understand my concern towards nature.
